Need to write an out of stock email? Here are 3 simple steps to get started:
1. Gather the information you need to know.
Before you write anything, you need to know who or what you're writing about. The more specific you are, the more personalized you can make your content.
Here's our suggestions for writing an out of stock email:
Reader's name: [name of user]
Product name: [name of product]
Reason for being out of stock: [e.g. high demand, manufacturing issues, etc.]
Solution to being out of stock: [e.g. offer a similar product, offer a discount on another product, etc.]
Notification method: [e.g. email notification, text notification, etc.]
2. Determine the structure of your output.
The structure of your content is just as important as the content itself. The structure of your content is how you're going to arrange the information in the content to make it easier for the readers to read and understand.
Address the reader
Thank them for their interest in the product
Explain why the product is out of stock
Offer a solution to the problem of being out of stock
Provide a way for the reader to get notified when the product is back in stock
3. Write the content or use Copy.ai to help you get started. Once you have your structure down, you can start writing the content.
Example:
Hi [name of user],
Thank you for your interest in [product name]. We're sorry to inform you that the product is out of stock. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we're working hard to get this item back in stock as soon as possible.
In the meantime, we recommend checking out our other products. You can find them here: [link to other products]
We'll let you know as soon as we restock [product name]. In the meantime, feel free to follow us on Instagram at [link to Instagram] or on Twitter at [link to Twitter] for updates on our inventory.
Thanks again for your interest in [product name], and we hope you'll continue to shop with us in the future!
Example:
Hi [name of user],
We're sorry to hear that you're having trouble finding [product name]. We're still working on getting more in stock, but in the meantime, we want to make sure you have all the information you need to make the best decision for yourself.
The [product name] is currently out of stock because of [reason for being out of stock]. We're working hard to get more in stock, but we can't give any estimates on when that will happen.
We understand that this might be frustrating, so we wanted to let you know that we're offering a discount on [alternative product name]. It's not quite as good as the [product name], but it's pretty close! And if you really can't wait, we'll give you a 10% off coupon code to use at checkout.
You can also sign up for updates by entering your email address here: [link]. That way, when we have more in stock, we'll send you an email so you can get your hands on it before anyone else!
